The majority of the house sits below ground level which is home to a cinema room, 2 guest bedroom with en-suite, an enormous secluded courtyard and a giant open plan kitchen and living room area. Meanwhile on the ground level it consists of a master bedroom and two bathrooms. At the front of the house lies two reflecting pools creating a walkway to the sunken staircase that leads you to the hidden courtyard and entrance. All electrical work, including sockets and lighting, were cast into the concrete during the build. This gave the walls a perfect smooth finish with no protruding cables and sockets in sight. This was a unique, one of a kind build which sent shockwaves across the construction industry.
This resulted in THE GHOST HOUSE winning the RIBA award for its architecture and was a finalist on GRAND DESIGNS HOUSE OF THE YEAR 2019 as featured on channel 4.
The careful consideration of the sand for the concrete mix has given the finish a surprising warmth that does actually make the spaces feel like a home. The delivery is a delightful mix of architecture and engineering to deliver some wonderful spaces that challenge the very notion of house.
